Thomas Edison’s Phonograph, invented in 1887, was a huge step into the amplification of music. Although there were other machines around at the time that could record sound, Edison's machine was the first that could reproduce the recorded sound. Later evolutions of this machine came in the form of the gramophone and later still the record player all of which laid the groundworks for the CD and now the downloaded music we consume everyday.
